NY WHEATFIELD — Wheatfield Town Board enacts temporary moratorium on battery storage systems. The board unanimously adopted Local Law No. 3 of 2026, retroactive to August 17, 2026, due to concerns about fire suppression and emergency response capabilities for battery energy storage facilities. In a related action, the board established itself as SEQR lead agency for Local Law 4-2026, which would amend zoning regulations for accessory building dimensions, and scheduled a public hearing for September 14 at 7 p.m. after county planning board review.

The board also responded to resident flooding concerns by scheduling early-October meetings with state and county officials to discuss drainage improvements and infrastructure maintenance.
